Paul Bunyan was designed with a number of goals in mind. Diamond Sierra wanted to completely round out the product in all aspects and implement each of those arenas of functionality in as elegant a manner as possible. To that end, the Paul Bunyan’s message logging system:
Allows for log messages that are extremely information-dense contextually
Supports a wide variety of programming languages
Is accessible from virtually all application types from device drivers and NT services to spreadsheets, web sites, and shell scripts
Is fast enough and light enough to leave in release code and use on production boxes, secure enough to be used in hostile environments, bullet proof enough to debug virtually any problem, and has an architecture that is open and flexible enough to fit with any message logging needs
