License keys, sites and renewals
How Paul Bunyan Professional licenses work: what counts as a site, why staging is free, yearly automatic renewal, changing plans, what happens when a license ends, refunds and the daily check.
On this page
A Professional license brings updates and support. It never switches features off: if the license ends, or diamondsierra.com cannot be reached, Professional keeps every feature and simply stops receiving updates. Your site never breaks because of licensing.
What counts as a site?
Each live site you activate the key on uses one place. Your plan sets how many: 1, 10 or 50 live sites.
Staging and development copies are free and do not count. That includes addresses starting with staging. or dev., addresses ending in .local or .test, localhost, private network addresses, and the staging environments of hosts such as WP Engine and Kinsta.
Where do I find my key?
In your order email, on the order page, and under My Account → Licenses on diamondsierra.com. Keys never contain the characters 0, O, 1 or I, so they cannot be misread.
How do I see or free up my sites?
My Account → Licenses lists the sites using each key. Remove a site there to free its place, or press Remove key from this site in the License box on that site.
What happens when my license ends?
- Professional keeps working, with every feature.
- Updates are still listed on the Plugins screen, marked "Renew it", but cannot be downloaded until you renew.
- A single line on Paul Bunyan's own screens says the license has ended. Nothing appears anywhere else in your dashboard: no banners.
How does renewal work?
Every plan renews automatically once a year. The same key is extended by a year: no new key, no new email to look for.
- If a renewal payment fails, we try again, and your key keeps working for up to 14 days past its end date while that happens.
- If you cancel, the key runs to the end of the year you paid for, then ends. Before it ends we email you, 14 days ahead and on the day, and My Account → Licenses shows a Renew button.
- If you subscribe again later, your old key moves to the new subscription and is extended, so your sites keep the same key.
Can I change the number of sites?
Yes. Move between 1, 10 and 50 sites from My Account on diamondsierra.com. The same key gets the new number of sites.
Refunds
You can ask for a refund within 14 days of purchase: open a support ticket with your order. A refunded renewal takes back only that renewal's year. A refund of the first order cancels the key: Professional switches off at its next daily check. The free plugin keeps working, and everything already recorded is kept.
What does the daily check send?
Once a day, Professional sends its license key and your site's address to diamondsierra.com and gets back whether the key is active. Every answer is signed, and Professional ignores any answer that is not, so nobody can fake one. Nothing Paul Bunyan has recorded is ever sent.
Something is wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Key not found" or similar | Copy the key again from My Account → Licenses. Check for a missing character. |
| All sites in use | Remove a site you no longer use under My Account → Licenses, or move to a bigger plan (10 or 50 sites). |
| No updates showing | Press Check now in the License box, then look at the Plugins screen again. |
| diamondsierra.com unreachable | Nothing to do: Professional keeps working and checks again the next day. |
