What it means
A visitor clicked a link on one of your own pages, or loaded an image, and got "not found".
The Broken links screen lists these addresses for the last 30 days. Visits from bots and from other websites are left out, so each one came from a page on your site.
Usual causes
- A link on your site points to a page that was deleted, unpublished or given a new address (see PB-2610).
- A page shows an image or file that is no longer on the server (see PB-2611).
- The link was added after the last scan, or sits somewhere the scan does not read, such as a theme template.
What to do
Open Paul Bunyan > Broken links to see the address and the page that links to it. Fix the link, or add a redirect.
Fixing the link is better when the page that links to it is yours to edit: visitors then go straight to the right page.
How to check the fix
Load the page that held the link and follow it. Once fixed, the address stops appearing under the missing pages visitors hit.
